A unique multicultural evening of music and dance unfolded in Belfast as “Tarang – Wave of Melodies”, in partnership with Beyond Skin, took place at Whitla Hall, Methodist College Belfast on March 7.

The event brought together artists from diverse traditions, creating a rare cultural experience for Belfast audiences. Blending Indian classical music, Bharatanatyam dance, Sufi whirling, Persian

musical traditions, and contemporary piano, the programme highlighted how artistic traditions from different cultures can meet in harmony.

The evening featured graceful Bharatanatyam performances by Swaralipi Banerjee and Karunya, followed by the mesmerizing Sufi whirling of Fahima Mirzaie, the only female whirling dancer from Afghanistan, joined by Anna Rüja Ayyildiz, creating a powerful meditative atmosphere.

Musically, Omid Asghari presented soulful Iranian melodies, while Arya Ahmadi’s piano compositions accompanied the whirling dance. The evening concluded with spiritually uplifting

Indian classical music by Pt. Prattyush Banerjee, accompanied on tabla by Gurdain Rayatt.

Audiences warmly appreciated this rare confluence of cultures and art forms. The event demonstrated Belfast’s growing interest in global artistic collaboration and the power of music and dance to bring communities together.
