Walking and Hiking in Belfast
With a vast array of forest parks, coastal paths, mountains, beaches and much more Northern Ireland is home to many beautiful regions for walking, all with their own unique appeal.
From the secluded coastal tracks, lush Glens and quaint fishing villages of the North Coast and Antrim, to the impressive granite torr capped summits and dramatic views found in the Mourne Mountains there is something for all levels of walkers.
The scenic beauty and the variety of the landscape make Northern Ireland a great place to explore on foot. The wide scatter of villages and small towns across the country means that forest trails, cliff-top paths, mountain hikes and pleasant strolls in country parks are literally on everybody’s doorstep.
Belfast as its capital is full of those options. The best way to enjoy these natural beauties is by hiking or walking.
Orienteering routes
Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves walking or running, while navigating around a course using a detailed map and a compass.
The aim is to navigate in sequence between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as long as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace.
Orienteering can take place anywhere, from remote forests and countryside to urban parks and school playgrounds. It’s a great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors!
Eco-trails
Eco-trails use orienteering to give young people the chance to learn about the environment. By following an environmental trail, children and teenagers can find out more about their local, natural and built environment and have fun at the same time.
